Only Six Registered Tutors in My Country.

Cheerio Drumsense,

After listening to Gregg in Florida(where 1/2 of all the Drumsense tutors are in the USA)
tell me that I'd be wasting a golden opportunity if I didn't become a tutor( am aware
he doesn't know about the Vic Firth conundrum)I naturally listened to what he had
to say about Drumsense.

So, spose' it all comes down to Colin's, Nick's and Neil's decision.
If you decide that I won't be allowed to be a Drumsense Tutor,
then I'd say your the one's that are also missing a golden oppotunity.

Seeing you only have six Tutors, 3 in Florida, 1 in New England(Vermont)
1 in Chicago and 1 in San Francisco.
Again, there are no Tutors in my state(Wisconsin) and if you didn't have
the one Tutor in Chicago, then the whole mid-west would not be
represented.

I'd love to know what Gregg means when he says; "Marc, you can't pass
up the opportunity to become a Drumsense Tutor"

Well, if the decision is to not allow me to become one,
I suppose I'll never know.

p.s. I have no doubt your program works great.
What I'm having difficulty understanding is
why only 6 Tutors in America ??? 8)

I'm not sure of the relevance of the number of Drumsense tutors in the USA?
As far as I'm concerned it offers tutors & students alike, a superbly structured & relevant programme, which also offers benefits to tutors that no other programme that I am aware of does (training, advertising, stationery, great rates on tutor equipment etc.).

Ok! I'll make my-self perfectly clear. First, I'd like to know when Drumsense was founded.
Obviously, England has the most tutors currently, naturally.

I'm agreeing with your assessment of how good the program is.
I've had a tutor(Gregg in Florida) tell me point blank,
Marco, you can't pass up the opportunity to
become a tutor with Drumsense!

So, the relevance of my "only six tutors in my country" is
a strictly "black and white" business assessment.

If this program is everything both you and Gregg says
it is, then I'd figure the # of Tutors in the USA would
be more than that, that's all.
If Dumsense didn't have a tutor in Chicago, the whole
Mid-West would NOT have a instructor representing
DRUMSENSE !!

And to make you aware of other support for Drum Set Education.
Percussive Arts Society Vic Firth Sabian or any major
manufacturer. They all have a way to support a top
notch instructor, like me  Ciao for now!

p.s. I have a studio full of great drum set educational materials
that either Vic Firth sent to me over my 8 years with them
as a PDT.
And more recently, The Percussive Arts Society, which
I am a member of since I came aboard in 2005.

Which begs the question, why are you posting on the Drumsense guestbook?

Hey Marco,

John Odom from Orlando, FL here. I'm not sure why you would say that Colin and Nick won't 'let you sign up as a tutor." I don't know the details so you would need to fill me in on that.

I can say this. Gregg Eckersen is a close friend of mine who introduced me to the Drumsense program. I just started teaching last September and I was looking for a method that would work well for me. I have taught four students this program and they all love it. Since Drumsense is structured, it allows the one teaching it to know exactly what you are going to teach each lesson. My students are making consistent progress; this keeps them excited and I don't have a problem with them practicing during the week. What's interesting is that my students are all working adults with families who are very busy. Seeing my students go from not even knowing how to hold the drumsticks to being able to play shuffles, snare drum and bass drum independence along with some of the rudiments motivates me and gets me even more excited to keep teaching.

Colin and Nick have a great support system and they have answered every question I have had. Regarding your comment about only having six tutors here in the U.S., I'm not too concerned about that. I know some drum teachers who take the approach of teaching only rudiments for the first month. My students have informed me that if I would have had them start like that, they would have quit. I don't see the point in making someone who wants to learn how to play the drums beat on a practice pad for a month. Rudiments are important; I still practice mine on a regular basis. But Drumsense has a great approach and when Colin came up with the program, I know that he and Nick put a lot of thought into setting it up. I believe that we'll see more drum teachers sign up with Drumsense in the near future.

Another great aspect of being a Drumsense Tutor is that my own drumming skills have improved. I have already learned beats that I don't always use in my own playing. I just received the fourth Teacher Training DVD. I'm starting to learn how to play jazz. I am excited to advance my drumming skills and I know that Drumsense is the best teaching method any drum teacher can use. Period. Matter of fact, I was at Gregg's house this last Saturday. He suggested that he will setup two of his kits and that I come over so we can go over some of the beats and fills that are on the training DVD's. Some of these exercises are pretty advanced and I'm very blessed to have such a great friend to point me in the right direction.

I'm hoping that some of my students will want to become drum teachers as well. I have no doubt that they would register with Drumsense.

Keep on drumming,

John Odom-Drumsense Tutor

I'll look for some your posts, too, in an
area other than the guest book!

Johnny O,

This is Marco(rhythmtiger.)

Thanks for your input here! Much appreciated.
Glad to "hear" you and Gregg are Drumsense friends
as well as Tutors. Saw you were 'Tutor of the Month"
Way to GO!!

I'm NOT going to get into the why I'm not already a
Drumsense Tutor. That's being sorted out by
the powers that be 8)

But can we be logical for a moment, please?
Say I came to you raving about a program
as good as Drumsense, and then you say to
me, "Well, sounds really great". Then you ask the
obvious, "how many tutors have
signed up? I can't believe there is ONLY
six tutors in the whole USA. If the program
is as good as you and Gregg says it is,
then why not 50 Tutors, one for every state????
I don't know this "drumting" Tutor, but he misses
the point I'm attempting to make. That being,
IMO,that a country the size of the USA would have more
tutors, that's all. So if I come on board, then there will
be 7.

Thanks.
And keep drumming & teaching your-self!

Jazz Drumming

Postby rhythmtiger on Wed Jan 20, 2010 9:09 pm

Hey Johnny & Gregg
in the "sunshine state",

I have just about mastered the Jazz sections of both
the Groove Essentials 1.0 and 2.0.
My specialty is "World Music" and earned kudo's
from Modern Drummer back in 1998 in their
'On The Move' column.

Yes, I'd love to be a Drumsense Tutor.
We'll see what transpires 8) :!:

There's a lot flying around in this thread, but to answer one question which has cropped up a few times: "why are there so few Drumsense tutors in the USA?". The answer is that we have been increasingly well-known in the UK for 10 years or more, whereas in the USA our presence is much more recent. As some of you will know, we exhibited at PASIC in Indianapolis this year, and had *incredibly* good feedback from both the "establishment" and also regular delegates to the convention.

I think it's just an issue of timing - if the number of enquiries from the USA is any indication, then the number of tutors will soon have grown considerably as well.

:P LOL!!!

Not only Kazakhstan, but Tasmania is lacking tutors "big time",too  :!: :!: :!:
It takes time to develop a roster of QUALIFIED tutors, not only in the USA, but
around our drumming community here on Earth!
