Terry Boazman (UK)

Hello, my name is Terry Boazman and I caught the drumming bug way back in 1973 when I went to see a band called 'The Heavy Metal Kids' and spent the night mesmerised by their drummer, Keith Boyce. Inspired by what I had seen, I begged a 'beat-up' old snare drum from my mate's brother and I was off. Since then I have played in many bands and have shared the stage with some fantastic musicians and I still get the same 'buzz' as I did when I was a teenager. At the moment I'm juggling my diary between four bands; an original rock band, a tribute band, a covers band and a party/function band- you can never have too much drums!

Teaching someone to do something and then watch them mature and develop their own character is something that gives me immense pleasure. I am very keen on the Drumsense programme as it gives a structure to teaching drums that compliments my own enthusiasm and drive for success. I do not want any of my students to be dragged, 'kicking and screaming' to their drum lesson; drumming is great fun and learning to play should be great fun too.

Learning to play a musical instrument has never been as accessible as it is today and this is reflected in the number and the quality of the bands making great music right now. If you are reading this and are thinking about learning to play drums, then I have one thing to say to you- do it!! I guarantee you will have a great time being part of a team of musicians generating energy, fun and excitement- and why am I qualified to say that? – Well I've been doing exactly that for the past 37 years!

I am CRB cleared and offer a relaxed teaching environment at my home studio in Solihull, West Midlands. Please contact me for more information; I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

I have been playing the drums since I was 6 years old. I currently play in two bands; The Curtains are a five piece indie/rock band and The Red Pine Timber Company are a country/ Americana band featuring a range of accomplished musicians.

I have my own transport and I am happy to do home tuition or studio based lessons.

Hi, I'm Jay. I've been drumming since I was nine, with various blues, soul, funk, rock, indie, and progressive bands. I have enjoyed the challenge of both playing and teaching all styles for many years and believe that every drummer has something to learn from another drummer and, at any level.

I have been teaching on and off for almost twenty years with my own curriculum. Now, with the guidance of Drumsense, students can now learn from a well-proven methodology as well as my own musical approach to drumming. I teach a 'feel' approach to all styles as well as covering all rudimental bases. I feel that every student is unique and works at his or her own level and at his/her own pace. Whether you want to learn your first paradiddle or need some help with your double bass drumming, we can work to your own needs.

Please feel free to contact me for a chat.

I look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Many thanks.

Matt Gibson (UK)

Hi, I'm Matt! I'm 19, which currently makes me one of the youngest Drumsense tutors. I have been a student of the program myself since the age of 13, when I finally started to have lessons, having had a fascination for the instrument for as long as I can remember!

I received my first kit that Christmas. I quickly showed a natural ability, gaining Distinctions in my Drumsense grades. By the age of 16 I had played in school bands and productions such as "Guys and Dolls", "We Will Rock You" and "Tommy" to sell out audiences in the local 'Hazlett Theatre' and numerous schools.

My parents then began taking me to local 'Jam nights' which helped develop my musicality and public performance by playing with a variety of other musicians, in a multitude of different styles. I can now regularly be seen performing in 'House Bands' and I am now well established in the local scene, frequently being asked to dep for other players and do session work by a number of different bands and artists. This has led to me gaining the opportunity to play at venues including Oxford University.

In 2009, I took part in the sponsored charity drum event in Birmingham NEC, 'Stick it to MS' where I greatly enjoyed playing alongside drummers such as Karl Brazil, Jojo Mayer, Gavin Harrison, Jason Bittner and Don Powell.

My main influences include Mitch Mitchell, Ringo Starr, Art Blakey, Buddy Rich, Joe Morello, John Bonham; the list goes on! I have a diverse taste in all musical styles which enables me to play a variety of different genres.

My other big passion is my band, the young originals Maidstone/Medway based, 'The Soundcasters' (www.myspace.com/thesoundcastersmusic). Our music is greatly inspired by the 60's era with some modern day indie thrown in and it attracts a great following of all ages. This has taken me to places such as the infamous Cavern Club in Liverpool, various well known venues in London such as Bar Fly, Bull and Gate, Hope and Anchor, Dirty South and many more.

In 2008 I gained double Distinction in the Level 3 BTEC National for Music Practice and in 2009 I was awarded another double Distinction for BTEC National Certificate for Music.
I am also a member of the Musicians Union and I am CRB checked.

I enjoy passing on my love of the drums by teaching students who range in age from 7 years to 50. I feel that I have a great knowledge of the program as I have been involved in it myself, which enables me to relive it every time I pass it on to a student. Before I started with my Drumsense tutor I had a few lessons with a different teacher who did not follow a programme. I did not develop my skills well and found it uninspiring without a structure, so I found a great Drumsense tutor Richard Davey who I continue to work with and have not looked back since. Being part of the Drumsense team gives me the foundations to build on and pass on to others.

George Lindsay (UK)

Hi! I'm George and I started playing drums at 5 years old when my parents bought me my first drum kit.

I learned with various teachers around the country and eventually took the Guildhall grade 8 Drum Kit exam, passing with distinction. I graduated from college with a Triple Distinction in Music Practise and dived head first into music and have never looked back since!

I went on to tour the UK extensively for several years with various bands and took all the opportunities that came my way. I am in a band called 'Futures' who are signed to Mercury records. I have been lucky to record with some great artists including The King Blues (Island records), who had a large amount of TV coverage and Radio play and made Zane Lowe's record of the week. I also played with the band on two full UK tours , Japan for the Punkspring festivals, The Royal Albert Hall supporting the Specials and Glastonbury festival. Other artists I have worked with include: John Candy, The Royal Air Force big band, The Julian Tulk band, solo artists Matthew Reynolds and Fe and professional media composer Ian Livingstone on the soundtrack to the official F1 computer game.

Being in a signed band has allowed me to focus on music full time, which is great. I want to pass on some of my knowledge and help other aspiring drummers realise their potential. My passion for drumming really motivates me to want to do this well. Being part of the Drumsense network is perfect as it allows me to establish myself as a professional tutor and it gives the student a clear and structured approach to learning the drums. I like to tailor the lesson to suit the individual and like to keep lessons structured but also fun. I teach from my home studio and have a variety of equipment to help me do this. Lessons are usually 45 minutes but again, this can be tailored to suit the pupil. I teach pupils of all ages and abilities.
