Tutor Profile: Dan Potter
Iíve been drumming for as long as I can remember, but first played with others at age 5 when I joined the Junior Worship Band at my church, playing my ďMickey MouseĒ kit. (My first full-sized kit followed at 7!) I now play most weeks to a congregation of around 500.
I taught the percussion section and played the side drum in the Tonbridge Brigades Band who won an award for Best Percussion in the outdoor event at a national competition. I was also in a rock band called PARRHESIA and a few years ago I entered the Young Drummer of the Year competition and out of 441 entries, got into the top 10%.
I started having percussion lessons at 7 with Kent Music School and continued with them until my early teens when I decided I really wanted to specialise in popular music drumming.
When searching around the web I discovered DRUMSENSE and started lessons with Richard Davey. The Drumsense course and Richard got me really motivated about contemporary drumming and opened my eyes to a world with endless possibilities of techniques and styles. So Iíll just take this space to thank Richard for how heís guided my drumming and helped mentor me when first setting up my tutoring. I achieved my Grade 8 in June 2010 and am currently on track for completing a degree in popular music performance at Tech Music School.
I started teaching drums to a small list of pupils in 2006 and have since grown to near capacity. Iím now a registered Drumsense tutor and teach a wide range of material. In my teaching, I love passing on all the exciting stuff Iíve learnt (and continue to learn) and hope to inspire and motivate pupils to learn, and express themselves but above all have a lot of fun!
