Tutor Profile: Alan Williams

Biography

Hi, my name is Alan Williams, and I’ve been playing drums for over thirty-five years! I’m English, but I now live and teach in Sigtuna, Sweden.

I always like to acknowledge my teachers as they ignited and nurtured a passion that has never gone away even after many years. Firstly, Ezeke Gray who taught me what rhythm is really all about - as a Jamaican, he literally breathed it! Later on, I was fortunate to spend time studying with two drumming legends who epitomize the true art of drumming in every way - Dom Famularo, and the late Jim Chapin. I am also registered as a private drum teacher (PDT) with Vic Firth Education Team.

Music and rhythm is a natural form of creative expression that anyone can enjoy, and inspiring someone, at whatever age, to experience this sense of freedom and fun is a privilege of any drum teacher.

My roots are in rock and funk drumming, and I’ve had the pleasure of playing with incredible musicians from various countries including England, USA, Jamaica, Trinidad, Ethiopia, and India. I’ve played on the London pub circuit, toured the UK, and performed on TV and in the studio.

Needing inspiration? If so, come along and ignite the spark of drumming passion and turn it into a blazing fire!
