Tutor Profile: Jason Mildren
 | Biography
I was bought my first snare drum at the age of 3. I used to watch the local band who had a marching corps of drums which first took my eye. At the age of 5, I started taking lessons in marching side drum with this band learning rudiments and sticking patterns. Being so young it wasn't possible to continue with the corps of drums so I took up playing the cornet in the same band.
My passion was still with the drums so practicing at home and school were still going ahead. Although, I didn't have a regular teacher, learning to read music by playing brass help me understand note value and I quickly started reading more complicated rhythms.
I moved onto the Kit at the age of 11 and as they say, the rest is history. Drums has always been my passion and since those days I have played in various types of bands. Brass Band, Wind Band, Big Band, Jazz trios/quartets, Rock Groups and Orchestras both locally here in Jersey and in London where I was a member of the Central Band of the Royal British Legion.
For the past 12 years I have been the a member of the pit orchestra at the Jersey Opera House playing in local show's such as 42nd Street, Guy's & Doll's, Evita, Oliver, and Les Miserables to name a few. I have also had professional experience with the touring shows "West End Girls" and "The Rat Pack" when they visited Jersey and "Kiss me Kate" at the Beck Theatre in Hayes, Middlesex.
I enjoy all styles of drumming and after being approached numerous times asking if I teach, I have decided that it is time for me to pass on my experiences, to encourage anyone who wants to learn and hope they too enjoy the satisfaction I have received during my drumming career.
I will be teaching students at their homes or alternatively on my Roland TD-12. I play live on Yamaha and I use Zildjian Cymbals.
